A bit of sunshine came to the valley in 1973. Her name was Betty. With 2 kids in tow, Betty dived into the community. Betty worked at The Cozy Corner, Kern Valley Sun, Lorrie’s Roundup, Alta One, Admitting at Kern Valley Hospital, El Vaquero, Elks, Meals On Wheels, Cal-Cot, Shady Lane, even the Airport restaurant for two weeks. Her last job was as a real estate agent at Century 21 for the last several years.
Betty was a go-getter and ran for and won, Marshall in 1984. She raised donations that went to Wofford Heights Improvement Group. She became a part of that WHIG group and worked hard for improvements in Wofford Heights. Betty joined the Elks, Moose, Realtors Board, Women’s Club, and the Red Hats. In all of her endeavors, Betty touched a lot of lives and the stories shared about her and her kind heart are never-ending.
On October 30, 2019, Betty decided to take the hand of Jesus, her battle with cancer was kicked to the curb for a better job in heaven. Betty was the oldest of nine siblings, born September 12, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan. Betty goes to meet her beloved mother Betty Vargo, sister Darlene, brothers Billy, Richard, Ronnie and Gary, her son William “Eddie” Maggard and the many friends who have all gone before her.
Betty went comfortably and peacefully with her pup, Katie and her daughter Tawnya Torgl always by her side. On the day she passed her son Rick and daughter-in-love Tina and dear friend Darlene were also there holding her hand at home in Wofford Heights.
Betty goes before her husband Gene Heins, her daughter, and son-in-love Tawnya and Danny Torgl. Her son and daughter-in-love, Rick and Tina Maggard. Her son Michael Maggard. Her precious grandchildren – Bobbie, Timmy, Jason, and Jamie Maggard and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her siblings Linda, Danny, and Stephanie.
