A Fourth with no Fireworks

This will be the first Fourth of July here in the KRV without fireworks. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Chamber of Commerce was unable to get the permit to hold the annual fireworks show. Instead, money raised was put towards next year’s fireworks extravaganza.

This is very off-putting for many residents because this is their only means to a fireworks show since fireworks are prohibited in this area of Kern County. The only fireworks allowed are the ones put on at the Fourth of July show held every year. Being as fire season is upon us, it is even illegal to use charcoal BBQ’s and campfires at this time.

This limits campers to the full camping experience. Many will not follow the rules, but it will be fully enforced especially this Fourth of July weekend. Also, with many campsites closing around the KRV, the lake will be packed with out-of-towners.

Please use caution and report any use of illegal fireworks to the Kern County Fire Department at 661-324-6551 or KernCountyFire.org. Have a safe and wonderful Fourth of July.
