The season opener for the Kern Valley jayvee girls softball squad saw some promise despite, falling to Trona.
Playing at home to begin the year on Feb. 28, the final score of 12-3 did not represent the how close the game was the first five innings.
The pitching of Shelby Griffen allowed the home squad to keep the game competitive.
Kern Valley saw Trona jump out to a 7-3 lead through the first five innings. The Top of the sixth was a whirlwind for the Lady Tornadoes as the put the game out of reach by scoring five times.
Kern Valley could muster no further offense and they sit at 0-1 very early in the season.
Griffen in the circle set down 15 Trona Batter son strikes over the seven innings pitched.
On the offensive side of the ball saw Avery Valdezm knock in a run with a pair of singles. Griffen and Allison Watkins each contributed with a single.
Crossing the plate one time each for the Lady Broncs were Eve Burrows, Aneicia Perry, and Griffen.
Defensively, Griffen hustled out of the cirlce to produce a pair of outs on slow rollers. Valdez caught two infield flies to lead the defense.
Kern Valley will be going on the road to take on McFarland tomorrow.
