The Kern Valley JV basketball team rolled to a 35-16 win to begin their season. They dominated their Mira Monte opponent in a home match up.
Kern Valley took control from the tip off and never looked back. They began the game with a 13-point first quarter to open a huge lead in the game. The Lady Broncs defense shut down Mira Monte, limiting them to three points in the initial quarter. Kern Valley used balanced scoring to create their lead. Six players on the Lady Broncs were able to chip in points. The trend continued for Kern Valley as the offense was able to add points to the total. The defense also made their mark as they stuffed the Lady Lions. They allowed just four points to be scored as they took the 21-7 cushion to the locker room at the half.
Coming out of the break, Mira Monte was able to keep it close as the two teams managed to score 14 points total. The Lady Broncs added eight more points to the scoreboard, while Mira Monte scored six. With the home town scoreboard reading 29-13 the third quarter came to an end. The fourth was another quality defensive masterpiece by the Lady Broncs. They held Mira Monte scoreless to finish up the game and collect the victory. The margin of victory could have been much higher, but Kern Valley struggled at the free-throw line. As a team, the Lady Broncs got to the line 26 times. They were only able to make nine of those for a shooting percentage of 35 percent.
Leading the way for the Lady Broncs was Millie Bustamonte. She led her team in scoring with 11 points. Sam Ruiz followed with nine points, while Amber McAhren added four points. Taylor Kristy contributed three points, while Kaylee Ellis, Hazel Kiosef, and Payton Mental scored two points apiece. Zoe Perfect and Brooke Gibson rounded out the scoring for Kern Valley with one point each.
Note: No other stats were made available for this game. Kern Valley will now have quite the layoff as they will not play again until Dec. 2 when they go on the road to take on Mammoth.
