Kern Community Foundation Awards $10,000 Grant to United Way of Central Eastern California to Support Families Displaced by the Borel Fire

Bakersfield, CA — October 30, 2024: Kern Community Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to United Way of Central Eastern California (UWCEC) to assist families displaced by the Borel Fire.  The support will focus on providing essential relief and recovery items.

UWCEC’s assistance will address these needs through:

  • Gift Cards: $250 cards for essentials like water, groceries, and pet food.
  • Gas Cards: $200 cards to help with transportation costs.
  • Product Vouchers: For hygiene items and winter clothing.
  • Propane Assistance: To help families purchase propane tanks

This grant was made possible by the Disaster Relief, Recovery, and Resilience Fund at the League of California Community Foundations through Kern Community Foundation. It is part of a broader effort by Kern Community Foundation and its partners, who have contributed $51,650 in direct relief and recovery for the Borel Fire.

How to Help:

Individuals, organizations and businesses are encouraged to contribute to the Borel Fire Relief Fund CLICK HERE. The Foundation will work with nonprofit and government stakeholders, establishing safeguards to secure proper distribution of the funds, which will be used for long term relief: resettlement, rebuilding, and infrastructure within the affected area. Nonprofits may request funding from the Borel Fire Relief Fund by filling out the Assistance Request Form through our online grant portal.
