Samantha Wyly spends a lot of hours playing sports. Both at the high school level and for a travel softball team.
Wyly who lives in Squirrel Valley keeps herself busy playing volleyball for the JV team at Kern Valley and then most weekends she’s on the road to play in tournament with her traveling softball team. This past week she would play in two volleyball matches. Her and her teammates won both matches and then she changed gears and shifted into softball mode.
It was fortunate that this tournament was played at the Mesa Marin fields just a few miles outside of the canyon. Wyly is one of the starting pitchers for her 16u Braves James softball team. She was able to help her team string together some wins and grab the Silver Division trophy as the top team.
Some of her success in the weekend tournament were collecting a single and scoring two runs. Wyly would also record and RBI in helping her team dominate their opponents and win the game 14-2. In this game, Wyly was in the circle where she tossed three innings of softball. She allowed two runs, only one earned on three hits. She walked three batters and set down four on strikes in collecting the win.
The following day it was another round of softball. Wyly started in the circle for the 16u Braves James squad. She went four innings. She dominated the opposing batters. She gave up one run over the four innings. She allowed five hits, while walking one batter. Wyly fanned four of the 12 batters she faced as she picked up the pitching victory. The final score was 3-1. She also helped her cause as she was credited with one RBI in the contest.
According to Wyly’s mother Lisa, “She has played with them for three years. We are gone most weekends to tournaments and she goes down to Bakersfield one to two times after school (sports) for practices.”
Dedicating a lot of her time to her high school teammates and her softball teammates. Wyly is focused on being the best version of a teammate she can be. She also takes pride in putting her success on the table to give her teams the chance to be competitive.
