The Food Fest, an International Food & Community Gathering, will feature dishes from at least ten different cultures, along with presentations discussing a bit about each culture, and games and art from the various places, from which the foods derive
Local artists who enjoy and appreciate food will be holding this no pressure hang out at the Kern River Valley Art Association’s (KRVAA) Art & Community Center, in Wofford Heights, Sunday September 29 from 12pm to 4pm.
Laura Tran, vice president of the KRVAA, told the Kern Valley Sun, “I feel like the art just has so much to do with culture and who we are. And then all the artists just love to eat too so…”
The event is tied in with the Neighbor to Neighbor Grant. Tran said, “It’s kind of like getting to know your neighbors too. Whenever you learn about different cultures I think you learn about their foods. Food is usually the one thing that brings people together. Having exposure to all the different cultures in a non confrontational setting is really nice too.”
Tran said there would be music and dressing up. Artists will feature works representing different countries, with games and geography representative of the different cultures. Speakers will share presentations with regard to some of the dishes and their cultures. “I don’t think anyone has done something like this, out here, to my knowledge,” Tran said.
The KRVAA is also seeking volunteers from the association to help set up the event.
For those who wish to join in, bringing a dish to the event for cultural engagement, please make a reservation for planning purposes and note whether the dish has dairy or eggs or any dietary information. Please be advised to bring bite size foods, with about 100 servings.
