When you play the harder teams, lopsided losses sometimes happen.
The Kern Valley Broncs varsity football team traveled to Reedley to take on the Immanuel Eagles in their second game of the season. It would be a long bus ride back home as they took it on the chin 48-0. The young Broncs squad could not match up with the Eagles on this night. Immanuel coming into the contest was ranked No. 7 in the Central Section Division V rankings. Conversely, The Broncs are the 12th ranked team in Division VI.
Immanuel scored early and often in the first half putting Kern Valley in a huge hole. The Broncs offense had no answers for the Eagles who flew into the end zone on a consistent basis. In the first quarter, Immanuel was already up 7-0 when they connected on a 34-yard scoring toss. They went for the two-point conversion and were successful to make the score 15-0.
A short time later the Broncs opponents were knocking on the door again. This time a 10-yard rushing touchdown added to the Kern Valley deficit. The scoreboard now read 21-0 in favor of Immanuel. The first half scoring by the Eagles was not done yet. Their next score came from nine yards out, The Eagles quarterback found an open receiver and he tumbled into the end zone. That would push the score to 28-0.
The first half scoring by Immanuel was complete when they scored for the fifth time on an 18-yard pass. Kern Valley went into the break trailing 35-0 after the dominating performance by the Immanuel squad.
Things in the second half still favored the Eagles as they would put up two more scores. Two rushing touchdowns ended the scoring for Immanuel. Kern Valley’s offense never found any traction and they would have to settle for an 0-2 start to their season.
