No charges have been filed in connection with allegations that Kern County Supervisor Zack Scrivner molested one of his children, but there have been several recent developments.
Late last week, the California Attorney said it has agreed to review investigative reports about the case and decide whether or not to file criminal charges.
Scrivner is the nephew of Kern County District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer, and on April 25 Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood said the KCDA would not be involved due to a conflict of interest.
He also suggested the state Attorney General or Tulare County, which has handled Kern County prosecutions in the past.
The Kern County Sheriff handled the investigation at the scene on April 23 even though it was in the City of Tehachapi.
Scrivner’s attorney H.A. Sala, has strenuously denied any wrong doing by his client in comments to Bakersfield media. The Taft Midway Driller left a message seeking comment last week.
In another development, Scrivner’s estranged wife, Christina, was granted sole custody of the couple’s four children when a Kern County judge approved a temporary restraining order last week.
The Scrivners have been separated since November and in March a divorce was granted. They had been married for 18 years.
The order requires Zack Scrivner to stay at least 100 yards away from Christina Scrivner and all four children. It also allows Christina Scrivner to record telephone calls from her former husband without his permission.
She also requested child support and that he will be required to attend an intervention program for batterers. The Scrivner children were staying with Zack Scrivner on April 23 when the events that triggered the criminal investigation took place.
Kern County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to the Scrivner home after Zimmer called Youngblood about 11 p.m. and said she feared for her nephew because he was having “some type of psychotic episode and was armed with a gun,” Youngblood said.
Deputies arrived and found Scrivner suffering from two stab wounds, allegedly inflicted by one of his sons, who believed his father had molested another child, Youngblood said. The four children and Scrivner’s parents were all in the home when deputies arrived.
Sala said Scrivner was stabbed by a son who trying to disarm him and prevent a suicide.
Scrivner was taken to Kern Medical for treatment and his whereabouts since then haven’t been disclosed.
Detectives were called to the scene and obtained a search warrant. They removed electronics, a small amount of what Youngblood called “psychedelic mushrooms” and about 30 guns.
