The 21st Annual Jeanette Rogers-Erickson Heart Walk will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Kern Valley High School track around the football field. The event will begin at 9 a.m. After the walkers and runners have concluded their laps at 10:45 a.m., they will be served a lunch in the Wallace Middle School cafeteria, provided by Kern River Brewing Co. There will be an awards presentation along with a live band, and as every year since the Heart Walk began in 1998. The Kern River Brewing Co. from Kernville will be on hand to serve lunch following the walk.
“This year, we hope to see more walkers and joggers on the track. Every year we were blessed with people from all over the valley who come out to show their support, and we thank everyone this year in advance,” said the event’s namesake and organizer, Jeanette Rogers-Erickson. Proceeds from the event go to the Kern Valley Hospital Foundation. The group provides supplies and new equipment for the Kern Valley Healthcare District as a whole.
Funds from the annual walk have been used in the past for the purchase of other major pieces of equipment for the hospital to help bring 21st Century Medicine into the Kern River Valley.
Registration is available right up until the 8:30 a.m. on the day of the walk, so if you missed the Tuesday deadline, come on out, every heart deserves to walk. The entry fee for a team of 4 walkers and a manager is $55. If you are not able to secure a team, the entry fee for an individual walker or jogger is only $12. If you are interested and want to receive a team packet, you are encouraged to contact the KVHD Public Relations Marketing Coordinator, Deborah Hess at 760-379-5257.
“Come on out and have a good time for a great cause,” Rogers- Erickson said. “I promise you will not be disappointed, and you might even meet some new friends.”
