The 68th Annual Whiskey Flat Days is sure to be a treat this year, February 14-17,
President's Day Weekend, in Kernville, with a Rhinestones & Wranglers theme.
The Kernville Chamber of Commerce has worked long and hard at planning and organizing to make sure the events do please this year.
The Friday schedule of events include the opening of the Whiskey Flat Encampment at 11am. The Whiskey Flat Encampment features a reenactment, which gives the feel of the history of Whiskey Flat, how civilization existed in the mid to late 1800s.
Following its opening, vendors are featured at Circle Park at 1pm in Downtown Kernville. After that, at 3pm you'll see an array of carnival happenings when the Schoeppner Carnival opens on riverside Drive, not far from Circle Park, allowing visitors to enjoy both the vendors and carnival on the same afternoon. That evening there will be a line dancing demonstration so you folks, who want to enjoy Valentine's Day into the evening can make it a special date for your honey, remaining for the Whiskey Flat Days Street Dance, with a DJ featured for dancing until 8pm. At 5pm the same night there will be an Iron Horse Rodeo.
Saturday's schedule will include Kernville's Annual Wild West Daze Rodeo; vendors in Circle Park as early as 9am, a Whiskey Flat Days Parade throughout downtown at 10am, and the carnival opening at 12pm; a live music performance by The Rivals band from 12pm to 2pm and the Annual Wild West Daze Rodeo at 12pm. That day the Whiskey Flat Encampment will open at 1pm. An Old West Shootout will be entertainment in the AltaOne contest area at 2:15 and again at 3:15. At 2:30 another free Line Dancing class
will begin at the Thomas Refuse Service Stage. Live music will run from 3pm to 5pm, performed by Angels Roost.
You may appreciate Sunday's Whiskey Flat Encampment opening at 8am because there will be a an Old West Church Service not long after, at 10am, an annual tradition that
Whiskey Flat encampment founder Mike Woodward has always been happy to share. After bringing the kiddies to church, if you choose to, consider visiting vendors which will be open by 10am as well as the carnival. The Pet Parade will be a real draw at 11am that day and a Costume Contest immediately following at 11:30. By 12pm Sunday the Wild West Daze Rodeo gates will open and a whiskereno Contest at 12:00pm and Fiddle Contest at 12:30. Again there will be a free Line Dancing class at 1:30, live music from
Angels Roost from 2pm to 4pm and Old West Shootouts at 2:15 and 3:15. And then the moment all have been waiting for, the announcement for the winner of the Whiskey Flat mayor race at 4pm. Which candidate team do you think will win?
Don’t forget to visit the Kern River Valley Historical Society, which will be holding tours of the Old Cemetery during the weekend. Make your reservations for the weekend's rodeos at https://www.officialwhiskeyflatdays.com/
