Broncs varsity scaled Frazier Mountain 81-26

The lop-sided score was a welcome relief to Kern Valley’s varsity basketball squad. This was a game where the team was able to showcase what the future might look like.
From the opening tip, the Falcons were no match for Kern Valley. The young Broncs pummeled their opponent as they dropped in 31 points in the first quarter. Never looking back, they continued the onslaught by adding 15 in the second. Holding a commanding lead the teams headed for the locker room as the first half came to an end.
Coming out of the break the Broncs jumped right back in on the scoring department. This time they poured in another 30 points in the third. The fourth was just going through the motions until the final horn sounded and the Broncs were declared the victors. The score in the end was 81-26 for Kern Valley’s fifth league win of the season.
Four Broncs would score in double figures to take care of the offense. Leading the way in this one were Aiden Madden and Jacob Redenius. They shared the team lead in scoring with 16 points apiece. Including in his total was Redenius hitting twice from long distance. Joey Galvan followed by dropping in 14 points. Carson Parks became thew fourth and final Kern Valley player to score in double figures. He finished with 11 points, including draining a three-pointer. Zane Carver just missed out on double figures as he scored eight points. Maddox Beaury, Bryce Smoot, and Brandon Cox each contributed four points, while Gilbert Bernal popped in one from behind the three-point arc for his three points. Daniel Hinkey rounded out the Kern Valley scoring with a made free throw for his lone point in the game.
In unselfish play, eight Broncs handed out at least one assist in this contest. Smoot led the team by dishing out five assists. J. Galvan delivered four assists, while three players were credited with three assists apiece. Madden, Redenius, and Hinkey recorded three assists. Carver and Bernal wrapped up the assists with each having handed out two for Kern Valley.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Broncs were in control. As a team they pulled down 43 rebounds versus the Falcons. Carver was chairman-of-the-boards with a team high 10 rebounds. Smoot and Cox followed by grabbing six boards apiece. Hinkey finished with five rebounds, while Beaury, J. Galvan, and Bernal each had four boards. Parks recorded three rebounds, while Redenius had one to close out the board work.
Madden and Redenius were the team leader in steals for Kern Valley. They each put four steals in the game resume’. J. Galvan recorded three steals, while Beaury, Carver, and Bernal would finish with two steals apiece. Smoot and Hinkey would each come away with one steal in the contest. Redenius and Cox collected one block each as they swatted away a Falcons shot attempt.

Three days later, Rosamond came calling. Despite the bine-point difference in the end, the Broncs were able to stay close most of the game. The final score favored the Roadrunners 57-48. When the game tipped off, the Broncs were able to get on the board quickly and take a 5-2 lead. Rosamond then went on an 18-7 run to close out the first quarter. The score after one was 20-12 for the Roadrunners. Kern Valley muscled their way back in the game with a 7-2 run to close the gap to a single point at 22-21. Another run by Rosamond, this time it was 9-3, pushed them into a seven-point cushion at the break. The halftime score was 31-24.
The third was a case of matching baskets. The teams combined to score 27 points, with Kern Valley holding the slim the edge 14-13. As they headed to the final quarter it was 44-38. Both teams left a bunch of points off the board as they could not find the bottom of the net. Near the end, the Broncs squad had narrowed the deficit to five points at 53-48. The Roadrunners scored the final four points of the game. Rosamond scored 13, while the Broncs finished the game with 10 points.

The Broncs closed out their year with a home game versus Cal City on Tuesday. They currently sit 7-15 overall and 5-8 in the HDL.
